Full Circle

Back in February of 1993, I was in the Bay area, stuck in traffic with a guy I was rapidly becoming great friends with. He was a technical evangelist for Microsoft, back in the days of DOS, OS/2 and 16-bit Windows. His job was to evangelize tools companies (like the one I worked for, WATCOM) to modify their development tools to produce "Win32" code for Windows NT and the upcoming "Chicago" release of Windows (Windows 95). I was giving him a hard time about how "I wanted his job". Ha, ha, nudge, nudge. Well, thanks to my helpful friend, that spring I found myself up at Redmond interviewing. Before you could say "Windows Rules!", I relocated from Waterloo, Ontario to Redmond, WA. I spent almost 7 years at Microsoft and got to do some cool stuff, but in late fall 1999, startup fever got the best of me and I left in January of 2000.

Fast forward to February of 2007, 14 years from that fateful day stuck in a rental car with Eric. I am sitting in a hotel in Bellevue, WA. In the past 3 hours, I made an offer on a house and faxed in my signed offer letter from - wait for it - Microsoft.

Full circle, indeed.

So, what are you going to be doing at MS? Drop me a line - I'd love to catch up!
